CHLA 2nd Floor Playroom Toy Drive

CHLA’s tiniest playroom has the biggest heart.

The 2nd Floor Playroom at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles supports four critical care units:

  • CV Acute & CV ICU – kids recovering from heart surgeries or awaiting transplants

  • PICU & NICU – critically ill children and babies in intensive care

CHLA’s Child Life playrooms are designed to give patients and families a safe space for fun, creativity, and connection—offering moments of comfort and relief in an environment free from medical procedures. For kids who can’t leave their rooms, Child Life staff bring that same experience bedside, using toys, art supplies, and developmentally supportive tools to spark joy and support healing.

And right now, we need your help to keep it going!

⭐️ Help us stock the playroom

We’re collecting new, hospital-friendly items to be donated directly to the 2nd Floor Playroom! Here’s what we need most:

🎨 Crafts and creative supplies

  • Crayons

  • Markers

  • Colored pencils

  • Play-Doh

  • Arts & crafts kits

  • Small canvases for painting

🧩 Toys & games

  • Small LEGO kits

  • UNO and other card games

  • Matchbox-sized cars

👶 Baby items

🎁 Gift cards

  • Amazon or Target in $25 increments
    → Physical cards preferred, or email digital gift cards directly to CHLA staff: jvong@chla.usc.edu

🚫 Please no plush toys, handmade items, or oversized items.
🎂 Ages served: newborns to young adults.

📦 How to Donate

You’ve got options!

  • Drop-Off - Drop items at a participating school or organization donation box.

  • Host a Box - We’ll provide a custom flyer + collection bin. Perfect for schools, offices, or studios!

  • Coordinate Pickup or Drop-Off - No box? No problem! Reach out and we’ll arrange a pickup! We’ll come to you. (Los Angeles and adjacent)

  • Ship from the Wishlist - Use the CHLA Child Life Amazon Wish List to send supplies directly. (Look for “2nd Floor” in item comments)

💛 Why It Matters

Your donation goes straight to the kids and families at CHLA, bringing joy, comfort, and something to smile about during tough hospital stays.

With limited funding for playroom resources, community support fills critical gaps and ensures kids still have access to the tools that make healing feel a little more human.

And it supports the Child Life staff—some of the most thoughtful, creative, and dedicated people you’ll ever meet. They show up daily to deliver joy and normalcy in moments when it’s needed most.

Hi! I’m Brittany High, but my favorite people call me Aunt B. I’ve been at CHLA since 2016 where I serve as a certified Cuddler and Child Life volunteer. The 2nd Floor Playroom is a space I care deeply about and I’m honored to support it alongside our amazing community.
